Nayanthara was born on Sunday, 18 November 1984 as Diana Mariam Kurian in Bangalore, Karnataka to Malayali speaking Nasrani (Syrian Orthodox Christian) parents Kurian Kodiyattu(Father) and Omana Kurian(Mother) hailing from Tiruvalla of Kerala. She speaks Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu apart from Malayalam.

She has a brother named Leno Kurian (born 1975), who is working & settled in Dubai, United Arab Emirates along with his wife & children.
Nayanthara's father was an employee in Indian Air Force, as part of work he was moved all over India, Nayanthara moved along with her parents to various parts of the country. Her education has been all over India. Her family moved to Kerala permanently only after her father's retirement.
Nayanthara currently resides in Chennai, the home of Tamil film industry.

Affair with Prabhudeva: Nayanthara was first seen involed in relationship with actor Prabhudeva in 2008, in 2010 Prabhu's wife Latha protested again theire relationship & went to court seeking restrictions on him, Women's organizations supported Latha on this issue and there were protests against Nayanthara. There were rumours about the couple's marriage after Prabhudeva had divorced his wife. But In 2012 Nayanthara & Prabhudeva ended their relationship.

She was romantically linked with Tamil Actor/Director simbu during the shooting of the movie Vallavan in 2006, she rejected these speculations as outright non-sense and madeup by media.
Relationship with director Vignesh Shivan: Nayanthara is seen celebratin Onam with the director Vignesh Shivan of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. The pics of duo are seen circulating in social media,She was seen with Vignesh Shivan at the Jallikattu protest. Nayanthara was seen sporting an earring with the initial "V" which could stand for Vignesh. There has not been any official announcement so far, just speculations.

Movie Career
Nayanthara was part-time modelling for Local textiles, Jewellery brands & women’s magazines while still studying in college, when she was asked to act in Manassinakkare (2003) she rejected at first, but then agreed thinking it would be a one off affair.
Nayanthara made her movie debut through Malayalam film Manassinakkare (2003), a family drama directed by Sathyan Anthikkad with Sheela, Jayaram, Innocent & Siddique in the cast.
She made her Tamil Debut through Tamil drama film Ayya(2005) written and directed by Hari, starring Sarath Kumar, Napoleon, Prakash Raj & others.
2006 movie Lakshmi marked her beginning in the Telugu film insudtry, it was directed by V V Vinayak & included Venkatesh, Charmme Kaur in the cast.
With Super (2010) she entered Kannada films, the movie was directed by super star of Kannada film industry Upendra.
Chandramukhi was one of the block busters which popularised Nayanthara to a larger audience.
