An Indian playback singer who sings in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam Assamese, Gujarati, Marathi, Oriya, and Punjabi film songs.

Childhood & Early Life

 

Shreya Ghoshal was born on Monday, 12th March 1984 in Berhampore, West Bengal to bengali speaking parents, Bishwajit Ghoshal(father) an Electrical Engineer by profession and Sarmistha Ghoshal(Mother).

After her birth she stayed in Berhampore for three months. Her parents moved to Rawatbhata, Kota, Rajasthan, her father was working as an Engineer there. Shreya studied till her 8th standard in Rajasthan.

Her mother is a singer herself, she taught Shreya singing herself. Shreya was taught by many other teachers as well, but she credits her mother for teaching her the art of singing in movies which requires certain subtlety. Shreya began her learning music from the age of 4, her mother taught her Bengali songs.

  • Hindustani Music In Kota: Rakesh Sharmaji taught her classical Hindustani Music
  • School music teacher: Jayawardhan Bhatnagar taught her music in school, he introduced her to Rajasthani folk music as well.
  • In Kota: Mahesh Chandra Sharma taught her while she was in Kota
  • Playback singing: Her playback singing skills were polished under the guidance of Kalyanji Bhai, it was him who introduced her to Bollywood
  • Classical Hindustani Music in Mumbai: Mukta Bhideji was her teacher while she came to Mumbai.
